What We Started is a 2017 English-language Documentary movie directed by Bert Marcus and Cyrus Saidi and produced by Bert Marcus, Cassandra Hamar, Cyrus Saidi and Pete Tong under the banner of Bert Marcus Productions. Aims to establish itself as the defining film of the electronic music genre. Through an artfully crafted narrative and stunning visual techniques, the film delves into the highly popular world of electronic dance music, providing backdoor access to a widely misunderstood, self-driven and well-insulated industry on its way to global domination. The narrative leads with the legacy of Carl Cox and following with newcomer, Martin Garrix, as the film explores the parallels between Cox's undeniable influence and hand in the evolution of dance music and Garrix's formation of mainstream genres and global fame. What we started features Carl Cox in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Martin Garrix, Steve Angello, Chip Eberhart, David Guetta, Erick Morillo and Paul Oakenfold. The music was composed by Nima Fakhrara along with Stuart Roslyn, Pete Tong, Leticia Argudo, Jorge Flor, Gregory King, Kyle Weber, Irma De Wind, Navid Hejazi and Earworm Music. Cinematography was done by Will Dearborn and editing by Allan Duso and Greg Finton. It was released on 23rd March 2018. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Netflix.
