Salwan is a village of high historical interest in Karnal District, Haryana, India. It contains a tirtha identified as having national importance. The major population of the area are Raghav; however, Encyclopdia Britannica notes that their members have come from a variety of lineages.The Suryavanshi lineage, claiming descent from Surya, the Hindu Sun god. In English it is known as the Solar Dynasty The village was the subject of much media attention in 2007, when the beating death of a Rajput man was followed by a wave of violence directed toward local dalits. About 150 lower-caste families fled the village
