Sukma is the newly formed, southern most district in Chhattisgarh [South Bastar Region], India. It is located at 18240N 81400E / 18.4N 81.666667E / 18.4; 81.666667 at an elevation of 197 m above MSL. Sukma is connected to Jagdalpur by National Highway 221. The District borders with Orissa . Though a backward area,it has proved its excellence through its education and literacy rates. This is one of the most forested districts in the entire country . Sukma is also renowned for it's fresh water Prawns found in plenty in Sabri river and also for it's minor forest produce like Tendupatta, Chironji, Imli, Mahua, harra, Gums etc. On August 15, 2011, Chief Minister Raman Singh announced that 9 new districts would be created by 2012 and one among them is Sukma.
