Amtala (Bengali: ) is a census town under Bishnupur police station of Alipore Sadar subdivision in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Amtala is located at 2213N 8810E / 22.22N 88.17E / 22.22; 88.17. As of 2001 India census, Amtala had a population of 7599. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Amtala has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 56% of the males and 44% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
