Alaap is a 1977 Hindi-language Musical Drama film written by Bimal Dutta, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Jehan Nayyar, Rahi Masoom Reza, Biren Tripathy and Rahi Masoom Raza. The movie is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and produced by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, N. C. Sippy and Romu N. Sippy. Widowed Advocate Triloki Prasad lives a wealthy lifestyle in a small town in India with two sons, Advocate Ashok - who is married to Geeta.. Alaap stars Amitabh Bachchan, Farida Jalal, Om Prakash, Rekha Ganesan, Chhaya Devi, Govardhan Asrani and Surekha Pandit. The screenplay is written by Bimal Dutta. The music was composed by Jaidev Verma along with Rahi Masoom Raza. Cinematography was done by Jaywant Pathare and editing by Khan Zaman Khan. The movie has a running time of 161 minutes. It was released on 8th April 1977. Alaap was made on a budget of ₹2 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹12 lakh. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Rupam Chitra.
