BIOGRAPHY

Bhanurekha Ganesan professionally known as Rekha made her debut as a lead actor in the film Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999 (1969). In 1970 she gained recognition with the movie Sawan Bhadon which gave her stardom. There was no turning back after that and Rekha was considered as a very bankable star. She has had a good career studded with a lot of awards to her credit. Her maiden award was the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Khubsoorat which has since been followed by many more. The iconic films in Rekhas career so far are Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999 (1969), Sawan Bhadon (1970), Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978), Khubsoorat (1980), Umrao Jaan (1981), Baseraa (1981), Kalyug (1981), Ek Hi Bhool (1981), Vijeta (1982), Jeevan Dhaara (1982), Agar Tum Na Hote (1983), Utsav (1984), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), Kama Sutra (1997), Aastha (1997), Lajja (2001), Koi Mil Gaya (2003), and Krrish (2006) to name a few. Rekha, daughter of actor Gemini Ganesan and actress Pushpavalli was born on 10 October 1954 in Chennai. She attended Church Park convent school, Chennai but she quit school at the age of 13 to start a career in acting. In 2010, she was honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
