Parineeta is a 2005 Hindi-language Drama Musical film written by Saratchandra Chatterjee, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rekha Nigam and Pradeep Sarkar. The movie is directed by Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra under the banner of Granite House Inc. in collaboration with High Noon Entertainment, SAGE PRODUCTIONS and INC. The lifelong romance between Lolita (Balan) and Shekar (Khan) is upset by the arrival of another man. Parineeta stars Vidya Balan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Raima Sen, Diya Mirza, Dia Mirza and Yogendra Singh Waldia. The screenplay is written by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Pradeep Sarkar which is inspired from Parineeta by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The music was composed by Shantanu Moitra. Cinematography was done by Natarajan Subramaniam and editing by Hemanti Sarkar and Nitish Sharma. The movie has a running time of 131 minutes. It was released on 10th June 2005. Parineeta was made on a budget of ₹17 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹16 crore. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Vinod Chopra Productions. At the 2006 IIFA Awards It won 4 awards including: Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Designer and Best Makeup. At the 2006 IIFA Awards It also won an award for Best Female Debut.
