Amar Prem is a 1972 Hindi-language Drama Musical film written by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay, Arabinda Mukhopadhyay and Ramesh Pant. The movie is directed by Shakti Samanta and produced by Shakti Samanta under the banner of Shakti Films. The movie is about a school boy, who is ill-treated by his step mother, and becomes friends with a prostitute neighbour. Amar prem stars Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna, Sujit Kumar, Bindu Desai, Madan Puri, Bobby and Master Pappu. The screenplay is written by Arabinda Mukherjee and Ramesh Pant which is inspired from Hinger Kochuri by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay and Nishi Padma. The music was composed by Rahul Dev Burman along with R. D. Burman. Cinematography was done by Aloke Dasgupta and editing by Govind Dalwadi. It was released on 28th January 1972. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Sony Pictures Networks. At the 1972 Venice Film Festival It won an award for Best Actor (Rajesh Khanna).
