Alive is a 1993 English-language Adventure Biography motion picture written by Piers Paul Read and John Patrick Shanley. The movie is directed by Frank Marshall and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Robert Watts under the banner of Touchstone Pictures in collaboration with Paramount Pictures and The Kennedy/Marshall Company. A Uruguayan rugby team stranded in the snow swept Andes are forced to use desperate measures to survive after a plane crash. Alive features Ethan Hawke in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Vincent Spano, Josh Hamilton, Bruce Ramsay, John Newton, David Kriegel and Kevin Breznahan. The screenplay is written by John Patrick Shanley which is inspired from Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors by Piers Paul Read. The music was composed by James Newton Howard. Cinematography was done by Peter James and editing by Michael Kahn and William Goldenberg. The film has a running time of 120 minutes. It was released on 15th January 1993. Alive was made on a budget of $32 million and it was a hit at box office gross of $36 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by Buena Vista Pictures.
