Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is a 2013 English-language Biography Drama film written by William Nicholson and Nelson Mandela. The movie is directed by Justin Chadwick and produced by David M. Thompson and Anant Singh under the banner of Path in collaboration with Videovision Entertainment, Distant Horizon and Origin Pictures. A chronicle of Nelson Mandela's life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa. Mandela: long walk to freedom features Idris Elba in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Naomie Harris, Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Jamie Bartlett and Terry Pheto. The screenplay is written by William Nicholson which is inspired from Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela. The music was composed by Alex Heffes along with U2.
