Raiders of the Lost Ark is a 1981 English-language Action Adventure movie written by Lawrence Kasdan, George Lucas and Philip Kaufman. The movie is directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Frank Marshall under the banner of Lucasfilm Ltd. Archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis. Raiders of the lost ark stars Harrison Ford in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Karen Allen, Paul Freeman, Ronald Lacey, John Rhys-davies, Denholm Elliott and Alfred Molina. The screenplay is written by Lawrence Kasdan. The music was composed by John Williams. Cinematography was done by Douglas Slocombe and editing by Michael Kahn. The movie has a running time of 115 minutes. It was released on 25th December 1981 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. Raiders of the Lost Ark was made on a budget of $18 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $390 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Paramount Pictures. At the 1982 Oscar Awards It won 4 awards including: Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Sound, Best Film Editing and Best Effects, Visual Effects.
