Shahid narrates a story of Shahid Azmi, a former militant who after retirement tries to get justice to people who are falsely implicated as a terrorist. Though he succeeds in his endeavor he meets an unjustifiable end. The screenplay was written by Sameer Gautam Singh. The film was produced by Anurag Kashyap, Sunil Bohra, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur and directed by Hansal Mehta. This 2013 biographical film stars Rajkummar Rao, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Kay Kay Menon, Prabhleen Sandhu, and Prabal Panjabi. Clear cut editing by Apurva Asrani and adept cinematography by Anuj Dhawan makes it a watchable movie. It was released on 18 October 2013 and was distributed by UTV Motion Pictures. The music was composed by Karan Kulkarni. The film was made on a budget of ₹65 lakh and it collected ₹3.60 crores at the box office. The Censor Board has categorized the movie under A certification and occupies a screen time of 123 minutes. At the 2014 National Film Awards, it received an award for Best Direction and Best Actor (Rajkummar Rao).
