The Bridge on the River Kwai is a 1957 English-language Adventure Drama film written by Pierre Boulle, Carl Foreman and Michael Wilson. The movie is directed by David Lean and produced by Sam Spiegel under the banner of Horizon Pictures. After settling his differences with a Japanese PoW camp commander, a British colonel co-operates to over his men's construction of a railway bridge for their captors - while oblivious to a plan by the Allies to destroy it. The bridge on the river kwai features William Holden in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Jack Hawkins, Alec Guinness, Sessue Hayakawa, James Donald, Geoffrey Horne and André Morell. The screenplay is written by Carl Foreman and Michael Wilson which is inspired from The Bridge over the River Kwai by Pierre Boulle. The music was composed by Malcolm Arnold. Cinematography was done by Jack Hildyard and editing by Peter Taylor. The film has a running time of 161 minutes. It was released on 11th October 1957 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office.
