This Is the Sea is a 1997 English-language Drama Romance motion picture written and directed by Mary Mcguckian and produced by Michael Garland. The film is set in Northern Ireland shortly after 1994 cease-fire. Hazel is a Protestant and Malachy a Catholic. Romance between them is threatened by Rohan (leader in militant underground and pal of Malachy's brother Padhar), who wants Malachy to be recruited and fight for the cause and by Hazel's brother Jef, who spies on her meetings. This is the sea stars Samantha Morton in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Ross Mcdade, Gabriel Byrne, Richard Harris, John Lynch, Dearbhla Molloy and Ian Mcelhinney. The music was composed by Mike Scott along with Brian Kennedy. Cinematography was done by Des Whelan. The motion picture has a running time of 104 minutes. It was released on 28th February 1998.
