Harsud was a town and a nagar panchayat in Khandwa in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Harsud was a 700-year-old town in Khandwa District. It was submerged by the waters of the Indira Sagar dam in July 2004. Harsud was located at 2206N 7644E / 22.1N 76.73E / 22.1; 76.73. It has an average elevation of 244metres (800feet). Now it is not on that location due to Indira Sagar Dam. That town has been shifted to Chhanera (New Harsud). Old Harsud is submerged.Pravin Agrawal is the only Engineer from harsud. As of 2001 India census, Harsud had a population of 15,869. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Harsud has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 61%. In Harsud, 14% of the population was under 6 years of age.
