Joda is a city in the Kendujhar district of the state of Orissa, India. The area has rich iron ore deposits and the economy centres around the large-scale production of steel. As of the 2001 Indian census, the population of Joda has been enumerated to be, 38671. Males constitute 52% of the population while females account for 48% of the population. In Joda, 16 percent of the population is less than six years of age. The average literacy rate of Joda is 54%, which is much lower than the national average literacy rate. Out of it, the male literacy rate is 64% while in Joda the female literacy rate is 43%. Joda's economy is mostly based on large-scale Steel producers, such as Tata Steel, Jindal Steel and SAIL. This region has some of the richest iron deposits in India, and as a result of this many steel plants such as TISCO and Rourkela Steel Plant have been constructed near the Joda region.
