Mahasamund is a city and a municipality in Mahasamund District in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is the administrative headquarters of Mahasamund District.The present Mayor (Nagar Palika) is Dr. Vimal Chopra. The present collector is SMT. Niharika Barik Sigh Mahasamund is located at 2106N 8206E / 21.1N 82.1E / 21.1; 82.1. It has an average elevation of 318metres (1043feet). As of 2001 India census, Mahasamund had a population of 47,203. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Mahasamund has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 61%.
