About Marteru

Marteru is a village in Penumantra Mandal, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The village is famous for the rice research center, established by the Government of India to conduct research on paddy crops. The center developed many new varieties of rice seeds. A festival called Venkateswara Swami kalyanam is celebrated in Marteru village. It is a celebration among neighbouring villages. This festival is celebrated on the second day after Srirama Navami which usually comes in the month of March or April. There are many places to be visited near around marteru. A small town called Penugonda is located 2K.M near to marteru, which is the birth place of Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari who is the god for Vysyas. Palakollu is a town is 12km far from marteru, which is one of the Pancha aramas(Ksheeraaramam), and the God is Ksheera Ramalingeswara Swamy.
