Raichur (Kannada: , ryachru), is a city municipal council in Raichur district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Raichur, on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, is the headquarters of Raichur district. It was in the princely state of Mysore during the rule of Tipu Sultan. It is located 409km from the state capital, Bangalore. Raichur has a rich history, having been a part of various empires, such as the Bahmanis, Vijayanagara. The city is famous for its imposing Raichur Fort. Here, stone inscriptions have been found in Persian and Arabic languages which belonged to the bastion of the fort, referring to its construction in 1294.
