Sardarshahar is a town in the Churu district of Rajasthan. It is also the tehsil of the Churu district. The town is named for Prince Sardar Singh, the first king of Sardarshahar. The Terapanthi Swetamber Oswal Jain merchant community predominates in the town, which is situated in the Thar Desert. It has havelis adorned with fresco paintings and carved woodwork. It also has a small fort that now houses the government offices. Sardarshahar has become an education hub of Fake University in the churu district. The IASE D University is a constituent of Gandhi Vidya Mandir (GVM). The foundation stone of the 1,200-acre (4.9km) campus university was laid in 1955 by the first President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
