About Shahabad

Shahabad is a town in Gulbarga district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The town is divided into the following areas: Bazaar, the residential townships of Alstom and Jaypee Cements (formerly ACC or HMP), Bhankur/Shantnagar and Old Shahabad. Agriculture, limestone mines, boiler and cement production are the main areas of commerce. City area is 7.80 km2, length of roads 32.50 km. As of 2001 India census,[3] Shahabad had a population of 50,587. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Shahabad has an average literacy rate of 57%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 48%. In Shahabad, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
