Rudyard Kipling used the forests in the vicinity of Seoni, or as he spells it, Seeonee, as the setting for the Mowgli stories in The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book (18941895), although the area is not an actual rainforest. Seoni is located at 2205N 7932E / 22.08N 79.53E / 22.08; 79.53. It has an average elevation of 611metres (2004feet). The city is 2,043ft. above sea-level, half-way between Nagpur and Jabalpur.
