Alien is a 1979 English-language Horror Sci-Fi movie written by Dan O'bannon, Ronald Shusett, Jack Paglen and Ciro Ippolito. The movie is directed by Ridley Scott and Ciro Ippolito and produced by David Giler, Walter Hill and Gordon Carroll under the banner of TriStar Pictures in collaboration with Tencent Pictures, Big Beach and Mr. Youree Productions. Based on a story by O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett, it follows the crew of the commercial space tug Nostromo, who, after coming across a mysterious derelict spaceship on an uncharted planetoid, find themselves up against an aggressive and deadly extraterrestrial set loose on the Nostromo. Alien features Tom Skerritt in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto. The screenplay is written by Dan O'Bannon. The music was composed by Academy Award Oscar winner Jerry Goldsmith. Cinematography was done by Derek Vanlint and editing by Terry Rawlings and Peter Weatherley. The motion picture has a running time of 116 minutes. It was released on 31st October 1979 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. Alien was made on a budget of $50 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $131 million. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by 20th Century Fox.
