The movie is inspired by I Am Sam by Kristine Johnson and Jessie Nelson. The story is about a man with disabilities who fights for custody of his 7-year-old daughter when his father in law takes her away from him. In the process, he teaches his opponent lawyer the value of love and family. Sree Rajakaliamman Medias was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Ronnie Screwvala and M. Chinthamani. The film was written and directed by A. L. Vijay. UTV Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Deivathirumagal was released on 15th July 2011 and occupies a screen time of 166 minutes. The film was successful at the box office. Deivathirumagal was made on a budget of ₹20 crore and it grossed ₹69 crore at the box office.
