Man of the West is a 1958 English-language Drama Romance motion picture directed by Anthony Mann and produced by Walter Mirisch. On his way to hire a schoolteacher, a homesteader is left a hundred miles from anywhere when the train he is on is robbed. With him are an attractive dancehall girl and an untrustworthy gambler and he decides to get shelter nearby from outlaw relatives he used to run with. They don't trust him and he loathes them but they decide he can help them with one last bank job. Written by Jeremy Perkins {J-26}. Man of the west features Gary Cooper, Julie London, Lee J. Cobb, Arthur O'connell, Jack Lord, John Dehner and Jack Williams. The screenplay is written by Reginald Rose which is inspired from The Border Jumpers 1955 novel by Will C. Brown. The music was composed by Leigh Harline. Cinematography was done by Ernest Haller and editing by Victor Heerman and Richard V. Heermance. The movie has a running time of 100 min. It was released on 1st November 1958 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released. Man of the West was made on a budget of $1 million. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by United Artists.
