Shanghai is a 2012 Hindi-language Crime Thriller motion picture written by Vasilis Vasilikos, Urmi Juvekar and Dibakar Banerjee. The movie is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced by Dibakar Banerjee, Ajay Bijli, Sanjeev K Bijli and Priya Sreedharan under the banner of Dibakar Banerjee Productions. Prime leader of a campaign against a big government project is killed in what appears to be a road accident. An IAS officer is ordered to probe the incident and the veils of falsehood begin to drop. Shanghai stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including Abhay Deol, Farooq Shaikh, Kalki Koechlin, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Pitobash Tripathy and Supriya Pathak. The screenplay is written by Urmi Juvekar and Dibakar Banerjee which is inspired from Z by Vassilis Vassilikos. The music was composed by IIFA Award winner Shekhar Ravjiani along with Vishal Dadlani, Vishal Shekhar and Mikey Mccleary. Cinematography was done by Nikos Andritsakis and editing by Namrata Rao. The film has a running time of 120 minutes. It was released on 7th June 2012. Shanghai was made on a budget of ₹23 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹23 crore.
