The film The Accidental Prime Minister dramatizes the life of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the 13th Prime minister of India. The film directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte stars Anupam Kher in the main lead. The movie is based on the anecdote written by Sanjaya Baru from which writers Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, Mayank Tewari, Karl Dunne, and Aditya Sinha have penned the story. The epilogue by Sanjaya Baru serves as the main plot of the movie. Bohra Bros under Rudra production along with Jayantilal Gada of Pen India limited have produced the movie which collected approximately 31.87 crores in the box office worldwide. The movie was shot in London and New Delhi.
Amidst controversies, the film was released on 11th January 2019 in Hindi and the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions were released on 18th January. It was given 1300 screens in India and 140 screens overseas. The movie has a single song track which was composed by Sandhu Tiwari and Baba Ngarjun has jotted down the lyrics. The film, which was beautifully captured by R.Madhi was edited by K.L.Praveen. Alleged as political propaganda by the Congress the movie has received mixed reviews from the critics.
