The Lady is a 2011 English-language Biography Drama film written by Rebecca Frayn and directed by Luc Besson and produced by Virginie Besson-silla, Andy Harries and Jean Todt under the banner of EuropaCorp in collaboration with Left Bank Pictures and France 2 Cin ma. THE LADY is an epic love story about how an extraordinary couple and family sacrifice their happiness at great human cost for a higher cause. This is the story of Aung San Suu Kyi and her husband, Michael Aris. Despite distance, long separations, and a dangerously hostile regime, their love endures until the very end. A story of devotion and human understanding set against a background of political turmoil which continues today. THE LADY also is the story of the peaceful quest of the woman who is at the core of Burma's democracy movement. Written by Europa Corp. The lady features Michelle Yeoh in the lead role along with an ensemble cast including David Thewlis, Jonathan Woodhouse, Jonathan Raggett, Markus Waldow, Susan Wooldridge and Benedict Wong. The music was composed by Ric Serra along with Sade. Cinematography was done by Thierry Arbogast and editing by Julien Rey. The movie has a running time of 135 minutes. It was released on 1st March 2012 in English and Burmese languages. The Lady was made on a budget of €22 million and at the box office it grossed only $7 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by EuropaCorp.
