American-born Gogol, the son of Indian immigrants, wants to fit in among his fellow New Yorkers, despite his family's unwillingness to let go of their traditional ways. The namesake stars Irrfan Khan in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Kal Penn, Zuleikha Robinson, Jacinda Barrett, Sebastian Roch, Sahira Nair and Ruma Guha Thakurta. The film is based on The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. The music was composed by Nitin Sawhney. Cinematography was done by Frederick Elmes and editing by Allyson C. Johnson. The film has a running time of 121 minutes. It was released on 5th April 2007 in English and Bengali languages. The Film was successful at box office.
