Vasudev Balwant Phadke is a 2007 Marathi-language Action History film written by Ajinkya Deo and directed by Gajendra Ahire and Roman Polanski and produced by Roman Polanski, Robert Benmussa and Alain Sarde. Vasudev balwant phadke features Ben Kingsley, Jamie Foreman, Barney Clark, Leanne Rowe, Edward Hardwicke, Mark Strong and Rahul Singh. The screenplay is written by Ronald Harwood which is inspired from Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. The music was composed by Amar Mohile along with Rachel Portman. Cinematography was done by Pawe Edelman and editing by Herv de Luze. The film has a running time of 130 minutes. It was released on 28th December 2007. Vasudev Balwant Phadke was made on a budget of $60 million and at the box office it grossed only $42 million. Distribution rights for the movie were acquired by TriStar Pictures. Born in Maharashtra, British India, on November 4, 1845, Vasudev grows up in a farming community of Shirdhon near Kalyan. After completing his education, he goes to work for the Finance Ministry but is enraged when he is refused permission to visit his ailing mother. He turns his rage against the British, who had recently crushed uprisings from Tatya Tope, Jhansi's Rani, and Mangal Pandey. He is forced to flee and don the guise of Kashikar Baba but faces betrayal by his very own people, is arrested, tried, found guilty, and exiled to Eden, Africa, where he will soon attempt to escape, then try and return home to continue his struggle against the British.
