The two films have many parallels, most notably, both being set in the Vietnam War. A better tomorrow iii: love & death in saigon features Chow Yun-fat in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Anita Mui, Tony Leung, Yun-fat Chow, Tony Ka Fai Leung, Kien Shih and Saburô Tokitô. The screenplay is written by Edward Leung and Tai Foo-ho. The music was composed by Lowell Lo.
