Guru is a 2007 Hindi-language Biography Drama film written by Mani Ratnam, Vijay Krishna Acharya, Anurag Kashyap, Sujatha Rangarajan and Suhasini Maniratnam. The movie is directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by N Srinivasa Reddy, Mani Ratnam and G. Srinivasan under the banner of Reliance Entertainment in collaboration with Madras Talkies. A villager, Gurukant Desai, arrives in Bombay 1958, and rises from its streets to become the GURU, the biggest tycoon in Indian history. Guru stars Abhishek Bachchan in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Aishwarya Rai, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Arya Babbar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and R Madhavan. The motion picture is based on Dhirubhai Ambani. The music was composed by Ar Rahman along with A. R. Rahman. Cinematography was done by Rajiv Menon and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. The film has a running time of 162 minutes. It was released on 12th January 2007. The Film was successful at box office. Guru was made on a budget of ₹22 crore and it was a super hit at box office gross of ₹45 crore. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Madras Talkies. At the 2008 IIFA Awards It won 2 awards including: Best Music Director and Best Playback Singer - Female.
