Jana Aranya is a 1976 Bengali-language Drama film written by Manisankar 'sankar' Mukherjee, Satyajit Ray and Sankar. The movie is directed by Satyajit Ray and produced by Indus Films. A bright and idealistic young man steels himself for the dog-eat-dog business world, only to flounder in a job market packed with thousands of other hopefuls. Jana aranya stars Pradip Mukherjee, Satya Banerjee, Deepankar De, Lily Chakravarti, Gautam Chakravarti, Aparna Sen and Sonia Wales. The music was composed by Berlin International Film Festival winner Satyajit Ray. Cinematography was done by Soumendu Roy and editing by Dulal Dutta. The film has a running time of 131 mins. It was released on 1st March 1979. At the 1976 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Direction.
