The Boy in the Plastic Bubble is a 1976 English-language Biography Drama motion picture written by Douglas Day Stewart and directed by Randal Kleiser and produced by Joel Thurm and Cindy Dunne under the banner of Spelling-Goldberg Productions for ABC. Based on a true story, Tod Lubitch is born with a deficient immune system (which is unlike being born with AIDS). As such, he must spend the rest of his life in a completely sterile environment. His room is completely hermetically sealed against bacteria and virus, his food is specially prepared, and his only human contact comes in the form of gloved hands. The movie follows his life into a teenager. Written by Afterburner. The boy in the plastic bubble stars John Travolta, Diana Hyland, Robert Reed, Ralph Bellamy, Glynnis O'connor, Karen Morrow and Anne Ramsey. The music was composed by Mark Snow along with Paul Williams. Cinematography was done by Arch Dalzell and editing by John F. McSweeney. The motion picture has a running time of 97 minutes. It was released on 12th November 1976. Distribution rights for the film were acquired by Sony Pictures Television.
