The Last Picture Show is a 1971 English-language Drama movie written by Larry Mcmurtry and Peter Bogdanovich. The movie is directed by Peter Bogdanovich and produced by Stephen J. Friedman under the banner of BBS Productions. In 1951, a group of high schoolers come of age in a bleak, isolated, atrophied West Texas town that is slowly dying, both culturally and economically. The last picture show features Timothy Bottoms in the title role along with an ensemble cast including Jeff Bridges, Ellen Burstyn, Ben Johnson, Cloris Leachman, Cybill Shepherd and Eileen Brennan. The screenplay is written by Larry McMurtry and Peter Bogdanovich which is inspired from The Last Picture Show 1966 novel by Larry McMurtry. Cinematography was done by Robert Surtees and editing by Donn Cambern. The motion picture has a running time of 118 minutes. It was released on 22nd October 1971 and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. The Last Picture Show was made on a budget of $1 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $29 million. Distribution rights for the motion picture were acquired by Columbia Pictures. At the 1972 Oscar Awards It won 2 awards including: Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Ben Johnson) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Cloris Leachman).
