BIOGRAPHY

Shivaji Rao Gaekwad fondly known as Superstar and professionally known as Rajinikanth made his debut as an actor in the film Apoorva Raagangal (1975). It was not until 1995 he got his first major commercial success in his career and earned a god-like status in Tamil Nadu with the movie Baashha which gave him stardom. There was no turning back after that and Rajinikanth at present is considered a very bankable star. He has had a good career studded with a lot of awards to his credit. His maiden award was the Cinema Express Awards for Best Actor for Nallavanukku Nallavan which has since been followed by many more. The iconic films in Rajinis career so far are Apoorva Raagangal (1975), Shankar Salim Simon (1978), Mullum Malarum (1978), Billa (1980), Murattu Kaalai (1980), Thee (1981), Moondru Mugam (1982), Naan Sigappu Manithan (1985), Padikkathavan (1985), Mr. Bharath (1986), Panakkaran (1990), Thalapathi (1991), Baashha (1995), Sivaji (2007), Enthiran (2010), Kabali (2016), Petta (2019), and Darbar (2020) to name a few. Rajinikanth son of Ramoji Rao Gaekwad and Jijabai was born on 12 December 1950 in Bangalore, Karnataka. He did his schooling at Gavipuram Government Kannada Model Primary School in Bangalore and then his brother enrolled him at the Ramakrishna Math, a Hindu monastery set up by the Ramakrishna Mission. He was then enrolled at the Acharya Pathasala Public School and studied there till completion of his pre-university course. He was honored by the Government of India with the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2016.
