Dharam Singh Deol fondly known as Dharmendra made his debut as an actor in Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere (1960). It was in 1962 he got his first major hit with the movie Anpadh which gave him stardom. There was no turning back after that and Dharmendra at present is considered a very bankable star. He has had a good career studded with a lot of awards to his credit. His maiden award was the Filmfare Awards for Best Film for Ghayal which has since been followed by many more. The iconic films in Dharmendras career so far are Soorat Aur Seerat (1962), Bandini (1963), Bandini (1963), Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya (1966), Anupama (1966), Phool Aur Patthar (1966), Dulhan Ek Raat Ki (1967), Satyakam (1969), Jeevan Mrityu (1970), Naya Zamana (1971), Guddi (1971), Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Jugnu (1973), Sholay (1975), Hush Hush (1975), Pratiggya (1975), and Johnny the Traitor (2007) to name a few.
Dharmendra son of Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur was born on 8 December 1935 in Nasrali, a village in Ludhiana district, Punjab. He completed his schooling in Government Senior Secondary School at Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana. He then did his intermediate studies at Ramgarhia College, Phagwara in 1952. He was awarded Indias third-highest civilian honor Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2012.
